Chapter 4: Hari Raya Aidiladha Celebration at the Kampung
What Muslims do before & during Hari Raya?

Day #1
Celebration of Hari Raya Aidiladha at Kampung Dusun Tua
Day #1
14th October
Early in the morning, all of us had to gather at UCSI lobby to wait for the bus. The bus came and took us at around 9am. We reached the dewan at Hulu Langat after 30minutes. We were guided by the local villagers to prepare the dish.

They are all very friendly and willing to teach and share everything, either on the food preparing or any Malay rituals. Then, each of us were separated into different groups to prepare various kind of food.

Our group was preparing the rendang ayam. Firstly, the villagers taught us how to prepare the ingredients before cooking. We did the washing and cutting of the chicken and others like onions, gingers, garlics and so on. After that, we started cooking the rendang sauce and stirred it for long before it is ready to mix the chicken into it. We kept stir the rendang ayam until it is dry enough to become the tasty rendang. However, it took a very long time for the chicken to be soften.

The cooking procedure of Rendang Chicken
1. Wash the chicken.
2. Prepare the ingredients.
3. Heat up the wok.
4. Pour cooking oil to the wok when it is heated
5. Add half of the lemongrass and spices and stir it
6. Add garlics, onions and ginger and cook until it becomes light brown.
7. Add (the red mixture) and stir until the oil bubbles.
8. Add the meat and stir until the oil bubbles.
9. Add meat and stir it until soften.
10. Add the santan and cook until dry.
11. Rendang chicken was cooked until soften and serve.

Day #2
15th October
One the event day, we went there by our own transport. To get ourselves more blend into the event, we were asked to wear the Melayu traditional clothes.

After 'salam' with he villagers, we entered the hall and the event started. Mr Kamal was invited to give a speech as the open ceremony of the celebration of Hari Raya Aidiladha. All the meals are arranged well on the table, the food mostly are prepared by us, students on the day before. Some of the villagers also brought some food for the event, like the 'nasi pulut', 'nasi minyak', 'kuih', fruits and drinks.

After finish the meal, all of us clean up the area together. The left over food was taken by the students and villagers. After the event was end, we went to the nearest mosque to see ‘korban’. The cow was being 'sembelih' into many part to be distributed to the people.
